Episode 002: Pinball

Ever since he was a young boy, Bowen Kerins played the silverball…and now, he’s a three-time and current reigning world pinball champion. We talk about the competitive scene, the beautiful difference between physical and digital pinball, misconceptions about the hobby, and why new players (like Kat) shouldn’t be scared off by these imposing, flashy, screechy wooden boxes, among other things. We also make Bowen play You Must Choose and play a role on this week’s adventure with Chance Fortran, Tech Therapist.

Hosts: Dan Amrich & Kat Auch

Love the pinball chat… I am lucky enough to have two machines at home. A big disappointment for me when I encounter a machine in the field is that they are always dirty and broken. Half the time, the machine has a stuck ball and isn’t even playable. How can a new player learn the beauty of the game if it is not functional? Unfortunately, for an operator (owners who buy the machine to put on location) a pinball machine is large, expensive, and unreliable.
BTW: Check out Jersey Jack Pinball’s “Wizard of Oz” machine. I saw several at the Texas Pinball Festival – really cool! Hopefully they will hold up well on location.
